The objective of the Stratford Camera Club is to encourage members in the photographic endeavors, provide instruction, and opportunities to improve their skills through club competitions, outings and guest speakers. We encourage social interaction within the club and with other camera clubs. And we will make use of affiliation with the Canadian Association of Photographic Arts (CAPA) to broaden our opportunities and objectives.

Club Competitions

  • There are three rounds of SCC competitions. The first round in November, the second in January and last round in April
  • Members may enter up to 10 images in each round. Entry forms will be available online or at the general meetings and must accompany entries
  • Prints must be no smaller than 5" X 7" or larger than 16" X 20" and mounted on clean mat board or foam core measuring 16" X 20"

February Print Competition

  • Open to all members of the Stratford Camera Club
  • Open Category but should be recent work (within 2 years)
  • A Maximum of 3 creative and/or 3 straight prints can be submitted
  • There is a $2.00 entry fee for each print submitted
  • Selected prints will be displayed at the Kaleidoscope in March

Grand Valley Image Battle

  • A competition with 10 other camera clubs in Southwestern Ontario
  • Work may be prints, slides or digital projections
  • Our 20 entries will be selected from images submitted at the October General Meeting. Participating members should bring 10 images to this meeting

Stag and Swan

A friendly competition with the Highland Glen Camera Club. Images will be selected at a general meeting prior to the competition, dates to be announced.

Kaleidoscope

A show in March from members of the Stratford Camera Club, composed of slides and digital projections in essay form with music to enhance the subject of each essay.

 

Category Definitions

General - An image of reality with minor adjustments to levels, cropping, dodging and burning.

Creative - An image that is heavily manipulated or may not be recognizable as the original image or subject.

Nature - Untamed animals or plants in their natural habitat. Geology and phenomena not produced by man. An accurate record of a subject and natural environment are most important. CAPA definition of nature is used as the criteria for judging this category.

Special Challenge - Challenge subjects are announced each year for each round of competition. Interpretations are up to the photographer.

March 1st - Stag and Swan images, bring your best work

 

Please Remember:

  • Entry forms must be included with each round of SCC competitions and will be available on the website or at general meetings. Any entries not accompanied by an entry form will not judged.

  • Digital images for projection must be correctly sized and oriented. The correct size is 1024 X 768 pixels for a horizontal image and 768 pixels high for a vertical image. Use Constraint proportions to maintain the proportions of an image. Digital files for projection must also have the correct naming convention (category-title-photographer’s initials.jpg) and saved at the highest possible resolution (90% or better).

  • Print images must be securely mounted on illustration board or foam core. The preferred method is window matted with a foam core backing images may be fixed to either the matt or backing. Mats may be white or black.

7th - Opening Meeting: Get to know us. Meet the executive and review events for this season, and how to enter competitions. Pre-meeting outing: at 6:00 meet at the John St. Parking lot for T.J. Dolan (Old Grove). Homework: Aperture

14th - Executive Board Meeting

21st - Workshop night: at Central United Church 7:30. Show and tell from first outing and homework. More on the basics Bring your questions and cameras.

October

5th - General Meeting: Speaker Amanda Ryan on the Art of Seeing. Homework: create a photograph inspired by another artist.

Deadline for first round of SCC competitions special challenge category "Sunrise/Sunset".

Deadline for Grand Valley Image Battle.

12th - Executive Board Meeting. Judging for 1st round of SCC competitions.

19th - Winter Photography: Guest Speaker, Paul Armstrong, London Camera Club. Meeting at Central United Church at 7:30

November

2nd - General Meeting: Results from 1st round of SCC competitions. Past Kaleidoscope shows and how to prepare an AV show, Doug Bingham and Dorothy Leitch.

9th - Executive Board Meeting

Grand Valley Image Battle

16th - Workshop Night: at Central United Church. Help with Preparing an AV show for Kaleidoscope. Bring your laptop, images and music.

December

7th - General Meeting: Pot Luck and Scavenger Hunt images from 2010.

January 2011

4th - General Meeting: Speaker Dave Charlesworth New Trends for Old Friends.

18th - Workshop Night: at Central United Church Judging, members will judge 2nd round of SCC competitions.

February

1st - General Meeting: Annual Print Competition and results of 2nd round of SCC competitions. We will have 3 guest judges for the Print Competition who will be commenting on the work presented.

8th - Executive Board Meeting

15th - Workshop Night: meet at 6:30 at Central United Church for outing to photograph winter night scenes that will include motion and long exposures. Bring your camera and tripod.

March

1st - General Meeting: Guest Speaker Terry Manzo on lighting.

Deadline for 3rd round of SCC competitions Challenge Category "Winter Scenes".
